Heart Tribute Band
The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band by Donald B. Powell, They always win the halftime. Members of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, embodying the spirit, camaraderie, and excellence of the school they represent, have marched and played proudly for one hundred years. Here is the story of the music, the precision, the tradition of that exceptional band. Illustrated with 121 black and white photographs and eight pages of color pictures of bands and band members past and present, this lively history pays tribute to the bandmasters and musicians who have made the organization the pulse of the spirit of Aggie-land. Organized around the tenure of its founder, Joseph Holick, and its directors - Richard J. Dunn, E.V. Adams, Joe T. Haney, and Ray E. Toler, the men who became "The Colonel" to generations of Aggie Band members - the book marches through a century of tradition and excellence. From the birth of the band, through the development of its marching style and its stirring, distinctive music, to its most recent triumphs of precision maneuvers and military music, the story is as bold and bright as the band itself. War years, fish bands, boots, band lyres, corps trips, parades, and other traditions known and loved by former band members and other former students of Texas A&M University fill the book's pages. An appendix lists all of the band's seven thousand-plus present and former members. This is a story of the determination, discipline, and enduring pride that rests deep in the heart of those young men and women who have been tough enough, proud enough, and good enough to be The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.
Making Peace with Cochise: The 1872 Journal of Captain Joseph Alton Sladen by Joseph Alton Sladen, "Cochise" was a name that struck terror into hearts across the Southwest. Yet in the autumn of 1872, Brigadier General Oliver Otis Howard and his aide-de-camp, Lieutenant Joseph Alton Sladen, entered Arizona's rocky Dragoon Mountains in search of the elusive Chiricahua Apache chief. Accompanied only by a guide and two Apache scouts, they sought to convince Cochise that the bloody fighting between his people and the Americans must stop. After twelve years of war, Cochise had already reached that conclusion, but he had found no American official he could trust. Known as the "Christian general" during the Civil War, General Howard was a man of courage, honesty, and compassion. When he went bravely to visit Cochise, who later recalled that "to do so might have caused his death", he won the Indian's sincere respect. Howard's devoted aide, Joseph Sladen, maintained a journal during their two-month quest from Fort Tularosa, New Mexico, to Cochise's stronghold. During the time he spent with Cochise and his Chokonen band, Sladen had the opportunity to observe the chief among his people. A student of medicine and human nature, Sladen found much to admire in Apache culture. His anecdotes about Cochise offer a perspective on the man that no other account provides. Joseph Sladen's journal is a unique source on Chiricahua lifeways and an engrossing tale of travel and adventure. Enriched by Edwin R. Sweeney's introduction, epilogue, and lively notes, Making Peace with Cochise is both a tribute to the legendary chief and his people and a remembrance of two courageous officers who helped change the course of Apache-American relations.
Tribute band - A tribute band (sometimes tribute group) is a musical group created in order to specifically play the music of a well-known band, often one which has disbanded or ceased touring. A tribute band rarely includes any members of the original band whose music is being honored. Change of Heart (band) - Change of Heart were a Canadian alternative rock band. Although they were one of Canada's most influential bands in the genre, they only had one mainstream Top 40 hit, "There You Go" in 1992 -- and, oddly, even that was only a hit in Saskatchewan. The Machine (Pink Floyd tribute band) - For other uses of the term Machine, see Machine (disambiguation) Rev.elation (album) - Joe Locke & the Milt Jackson Tribute Band - also: REV-ELATION, Revelation
